Overview
“competencies to transform our society and shape our future- mastering the virtual world”
About The Conference
The return to normal schooling has brought many challenges to schools, teachers, children and parents, who had to adapt to the new method of teaching and learning in the conditions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the new circumstances, the quality and inclusion of education are at stake and many children are at an increased risk of being left behind. We are living amidst what is potentially one of the greatest threats in our lifetime to global education, a mammoth educational crisis.
The undertaking of all education systems is the same.
It is to overcome the learning crisis we were already living and respond to the pandemic we are all facing. The challenge today is to reduce as much as possible the negative impact this pandemic will have on learning and schooling and build on this experience to get back on a path of faster improvement in learning.
As education systems cope with this crisis, they must also be thinking of how they can recover stronger, with a renewed sense of responsibility of all stakeholders and with a better understanding and sense of urgency of the need to close the gap in opportunities and assuring that all children have the same chances for a quality education.
In Africa we are facing unprecedented challenges – social, economic and environmental – driven by accelerating globalisation and a faster rate of technological developments. At the same time, those forces are providing us with countless new opportunities for human advancement. The future is uncertain and we cannot predict it; but we need to be open and ready for it. The children entering education in 2018 will be young adults in 2030.So now is the time to start preparing for 2030 and this 2-day event intends to discuss pertinent issues affecting early childhood development and basic education in South Africa and on the continent.
